Air Brakes in Russia

Westinghouse Air Brake was established in Pittsburgh in 1869, and the company grew rapidly both across the country and around the world. Fueled by the desire of railroad barons to have another supplier to be competitive with Westinghouse, New York Air Brake was formed in 1890.

Over the next decade, the two companies vied fiercely to establish factories in other countries.

Sometimes, as reported by the New York Times on March 8, 1902, guarantees were made that were impossible to keep.
