The electric company founded by George Westinghouse in 1886 grew over the next century into one of the world’s largest industrial corporations.
But starting in the mid-1970s, Westinghouse Electric faltered, then crumbled, then ceased to be when in 1997, it became CBS, then Viacom. Only the Westinghouse Nuclear operation continues, but under private ownership.
