Westinghouse High Schools

At least four schools in the United States have been named after George Westinghouse. All have high standings in their communities.

  1. Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy, Pittsburgh PA

(Founded as Westinghouse High School in 1915, the year after his death, the public school now serves grades 7 through 12.)

2. George Westinghouse Career & Technical Education High School, Brooklyn NY

(Founded 1919 as Brooklyn Continuation School, it was re-named George Westinghouse Vocational High School in 1947.)

3. George Westinghouse College Prep, Chicago, Ill

(Founded in 1966 by Chicago Public School, it now serves some 300 public and private schools throughout the city.)


4. Westinghouse Arts Academy, Wilmerding, PA

(Founded by parents in 2017, it is a tuition-free charter school that provides comprehensive programs for high school students to further develop their artistic skills. It is in the process of retoring and occupying the “Castle” in Wilmerding, former world headquarters of Westinghouse Air Brake.)
