My darling wife,

I received your letter of the 7th to the 9th today at the office and was glad to get it. Sorry to hear you are hearing so many things to annoy and worry you.

I am very anxious about Albert and trust he may yet recovery. As to Gertrude, I am sure you can do such to improve her. I hope and believe she will do better. I have not seen her since I wrote you and had called upon her. I shall send her on Wednesday with Mrs. Burke unless I come on myself as I may yet do if you should not be well enough.

Darling, it was not Genl Fairchild who kept me, but it was the signal business. I am now glad I stayed for they would not have got right.

You will receive this about 3 tomorrow afternoon. I think it will be possible to come home by Monday next. I will not go to Chicago this week but will come to you. If you cannot come next week early, then I think I might go to Chicago this week. Please telegraph me on receipt of this so I can arrange.  I enclose a lot of letters. I have answered all but Doctor Pantalone’s.

Every day from you seems an age and not to see our little boy is a hardship over and above that caused by our separation. Kiss Georgie for me and accept many for yourself and believe me, your devoted husband

Geo
