“My Own Darling Wife,” A Letter from Solitude

On June 10, 1888, George Westinghouse sat down at his writing desk at Solitude and penned this newsy, five-page missive to “my own darling wife” Marguerite.

Even when they were apart in distance, as they often were, the Westinghouses kept nearly daily contact by mail, telegraph, and eventually telephone. Indeed, Solitude had one of the first telephone connections in Pittsburgh.
